CODE OF ETHICS

1. Your animal’s safety, health and well-being are our primary objectives and concern.

2. Rules for your animal(s) will be adhered to without deviation, unless it places your animal’s safety, health and well-being at risk.

3. No aggressive animals will be used or encouraged for any production or event.  Animals that are trained to “act aggressively” on cue may be used if needed.

4. Animals with illnesses or contagious diseases will not be permitted to participate in any of our services or productions until fully recovered.

5. Leashes, collars, harnesses, halters, crates and/or holding pens will be used in all situations where the animal’s safety may be at risk and for their comfort while on set.

6. Training using positive methods will be utilized.  No physical or mental abuse of any animals during training or while the animal is in our care will be used.

7. We will not train an animal to be aggressive or make them do tasks that are beyond their desire or capability.

8. We follow and utilize the requirements outlined by the American Humane Association and the USDA Animal Welfare Act.

 

TERMS OF AGREEMENT

"FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY"
(This is not a "get rich quick" or "promise of employment" for you or your animal)

 

By contracting with any member or employee of "STAR K9, LLC" (herein referred to as “STAR K9”), the animal’s owner (herein referred to as “owner”) agree to the following terms.

Animal Actor/Model Talent Submission

1. To submit an animal as an actor/model the individual must be the legal owner and the individual morally and financially responsible for the animal’s life, care, health and security.

2. Talent submission information must be completed and returned before any services can be provided for the owner and animal.  Information should include the following:

6. Your Emergency Contact

7. Pet's Name

8. Type and Age of Pet

9. Veterinarian Name and Contact Information

10. Is Your Pet Up-to-Date on Required Vaccinations?

11. Brief Description of Your Pet (commands, certifications, personality, etc.)

12. Brief Description of Your Handling Skills (years, certifications, animals trained, etc.)

13. Pictures.  Pictures should be current (1 year old or less).  STAR K9 will take professional pictures (no charge) of your animal at their office in Cedartown, Georgia or the owner may take their own pictures.  DOG and CAT pictures prefer to have on a solid white background, but if that is not possible, an uncluttered, nice background with the animal as the main subject will be accepted.  Other animal pictures (farm, reptiles, etc.) may be natural areas so long as the animal is the main subject.  TWO head shots and TWO shots that show your animal sitting, lying down or full body shot.  Send pictures as individual attachments.  Pictures should be clear, good quality.

1. The owner verifies that the information provided to STAR K9 to submit their animal as animal talent is true and accurate.  The owner also agrees that they will contact STAR K9 if any information they initially provided to STAR K9 requires updating to accurately reflect their animal as true and accurate as possible.

2. The owner recognizes by submitting their animal as an actor/model to STAR K9 they are requesting the services provided by STAR K9 to market, promote and advertise the animal to media production companies and events that help promote the image of the owner’s animal, and stimulate the animal actor/model mentally and physically in a positive manner.

3. By submitting the animal as an actor/model with STAR K9 through the talent submission information, the owner understands and agrees that it is an application and not a contract.  And said application does not bind the owner upon submitting said application. 

4. Photos required to market, promote and advertise the animal will be necessary and of professional quality.  If the owner cannot provide these photos, STAR K9 will make arrangements to take said photos either at their headquarters or at an agreed upon location. 

5. An animal talent agent of STAR K9 will request specific informatin about the animal and may conduct an interview to assess the looks, personality, characteristics and learning abilities of the animal and determine demeanor, and attitude of the animal and their desire to perform.  STAR K9 will not take an animal that is unhappy to perform. Not all animals will be accepted.  STAR K9’s decision to accept or refuse an animal is final. 

6. When an animal is chosen for a production, the owner will be notified and informed of details and requirements of the production company.

7. The owner has the final decision about the involvement or non-involvement of the animal in any production.

8. If the owner agrees to have their animal involved in a project, they agree that said animal (and its likeness) may be used in said project, during the project development and/or at a future date.  Said material may include, but is not limited to, film, video, or print.  The owner understands that STAR K9 is not responsible for the release and the use of said animal scenes (or the animal's likeness).  The owner also understands that any material produced during the project with the animal (or its likeless) becomes the property of the production company and that the production companies, producers, directors and/or production companies' respresentatives or agents will be responsible for the release of such material at their discretion.

9. STAR K9 will provide payment to the owner for the use of their animal in a production.  Payment amounts will be at the sole discretion of STAR K9 and are provided to the owner as a consideration for the use of their animal.   The owner understands that payment is provided for the use of the animal for an individual project, and no royalties are associated with the animal's participation in said project.

10. If the owner decides to accompany the animal to set locations, the owner will be responsible for travel expenses.

11. The owner will be responsible for any taxes or fees incurred upon receiving said payments by STAR K9.

12. We understand how important the bond and working relationship between the owner and their animal is, and we will coordinate with the production company to have you on set with your animal to maintain the control, care and performance of your animal.  In some circumstances due to production company’s insurance restrictions, rules and regulations, only specific individuals are allowed on set.  And in these cases, you may or may not not be permitted on set.  If this occures, our animal trainers/wranglers will handle animals on set.  The owner is welcome to attend locations and venues near the set. 

13. If the owner is invited on set during a production or event, for their safety and the safety of others (the normal continuance of the production or event), the owner will be responsible to adhere to all rules and regulations provided by the production company, or the event coordinators, and will not be the responsibility of STAR K9 should the owner be injured or cause damage on set.

14. Owner will place on their animal a leash and collar (flat or choke - no pinch or electronic collars allowed) and harness and/or halters depending upon the animal.  The owner will be advised if there are other items are needed, such as clothing, etc.  All animals should be clean and well groomed before arriving on set. 

15. Training services are provided by STAR K9 for the animal as part of the animal’s personal growth and acceptability for major productions or to perform for a specific task in a production or event.

16. The USDA yearly license application is the administrative and financial responsibility of STAR K9.

17. The staff of STAR K9 will do everything possible to ensure the care, safety and security of your animal.  In the event of an injury or other problem involving the animal, STAR K9 will attempt to contact the owner as soon as possible in order to discuss treatment of the animal and/or call the owner’s veterinarian.  The owner recognizes that the staff of STAR K9 must exercise its best judgment and discretion when accessing medical situations on a timely basis. The owner agrees to accept full financial responsibility for any medical treatment that may be required.

18. Leashes, crates, collars, food and treats for the animal must be provided by the owner.  Leashes and collars are for the animal’s safety, and the food/treats provided are for the animal’s nutritional well-being. 

19. The owner’s personal contact information and any information concerning the owner or the animal may be given to a production company to secure contract of services.  The owner’s personal contact information will not be given out to the general public by STAR K9 or its employees unless the owner’s written permission is given to release specific information (media release, marketing, etc.

20. The owner understands and agrees to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, including appropriate dress attire, language, manners and courtesy.  NO SMOKING (including smokeless cigarettes), TOBACCO USE OR ALCOHOL COMSUMPTION is allowed at any time while on set or on location.  STAR K9 reserves the right to remove the owner and any of their associates from the set and/or location at any time without any recourse from the owner or their associates

21. To avoid any conflict of interest and/or improprieties, the owner (and any associates) shall not conduct in any self-promotion, marketing or networking in any form including but not limited to clothing, brands, signage, oral, written, electronically or otherwise, whereby any benefit in any way may occur, present or future.  Owner (and any associates) shall also not accept any commodities or gifts, regardless of value or presumed value, of any kind under any circumstances. 

22. The owner (and any associates) shall not take any pictures, photographs, video, etc. of any kind while on location without the consent from STAR K9.

ANIMAL ACTORS/MODEL AGREEMENT

1. The owner's permission to care for the safety and well-being of their animal as an animal actor/model for film, television, movie or print productions or for an event; was given upon registering their animal as an actor/model with STAR K9; therefore all animal actors/models registered with STAR K9 are under the care and control of a professional trainer/wrangler or dog behaviorist/trainer on set, at events or on production locations. 

2. A copy of the animal’s USDA license or letter of exemption will be provided to the production company or event coordinator of a production for presentation to the American Humane Society should any of their representatives be on location.

3. Animal photos and animal information will be available for Directors, Producers, and Talent Agencies through STAR K9 website and linked to the STAR K9 Facebook Page for viewing of each animal’s information.  All photos displayed on STAR K9 website and STAR K9 Facebook Page are the property of STAR K9, and cannot be copied, manipulated or used for any commercial event/production, media event/production, advertising, marketing, or public display without the express authorization of STAR K9.

4. Some productions require additional insurance for animal talent and the American Humane Society present during the production.  STAR K9 as a business is required to be insured for specifics according to our business criteria and operations therefore any additional insurance requirements will be the responsibility of the contracting production company.

5. If the production company requires the American Humane Society to be on set it is the responsibility of the production company to ensure they make these arrangements.  STAR K9 will assist the production company in procuring the American Humane Society if required for their production.

6. The animal trainer/wrangler is required, without exception, to attend all production meetings (either in person or via online chat, i.e., Skype) relating to the involvement and actions requested/required, directly or indirectly of animal talent.  STAR K9 shall be given allotted time to communicate and direct animal talent accordingly.

7. The animal trainer/wrangler has the right to withdraw from any production or live event, at any time during such event, without loss of wage or monies owed to the animal talent or STAR K9 should the animal trainer/wrangler find the treatment or the safety of the animal talent is at risk; or the animal talent is sick/ injured and cannot continue or complete the production.  No legal action or recourse against STAR K9 it's employees, clients or affiliates can be taken for the withdrawal of animal talent from a production under these circumstances.

Unless permission is given in writing by STAR K9 and all person's whose animals are displayed in the photograph requested and pays royalty fees to STAR K9 for the use of our pictures or photographs.

Your linking to any other site is entirely at your own risk.  STAR K9 disclaims all warranties, express and implied, as to the accuracy, validity, legality, or otherwise of any materials or information contained on such sites.

8.    STAR K9 may at any time revise these Terms and Conditions by updating this posting.
